India Post Offices in Kamjong, Manipur

Kamjong is one of Manipur’s hill districts where post still has to find its way out to small, far-apart villages, and India Post does that through 51 offices sharing 9 pincodes. Almost the entire network is rural: 50 of those are branch offices and just one is a sub office. That single sub office anchors the district while the branch offices carry the everyday work of collecting and delivering mail in the villages, each one looking after the cluster of homes within reach of it.

The offices are spread fairly evenly rather than piling up in one place. The Kamjong taluka has the most at around 15, with Kamjong town on 795161, but the areas around Kasom Khullen and Sahamphung hold close to a dozen each, and Phungyar has its own handful. Kamjong does not run a head post office of its own. The district’s mail is routed through the Imphal head office, and the lone sub office connects into that line. Because nearly every counter here is a one-person village branch, hours tend to be short, so post early in the day rather than leaving it till evening.
